Loyola Family Business Center has awarded Reed Illinois Corporation the Winner of the 2003 Loyola Family Business of the Year.
Ten years ago, the Loyola Family Business Center launched The Illinois Family Business of the Year Awards to raise the profile of Family Businesses in our community. In that time, the program has grown from luncheon to a gala dinner, from a handful of nominations to over 400! It is a previlege to honor the hard-work and dedication of families in business. Reed Illinois Corporation has been a family owned business since 1893 and currently employs the fifth generation of family members. Founded by Thomas A. Reed, who migrated to Chicago in search of plastering work at the Chicago Worlds Fair, the company continuted to grow during the next two generations, completing maintenance contracts and intricate plastering work in some of Chicago's most prestigious buildings. The company became general contractors in the 1970's and today, under the leadership of Terry Birck, President, provides general contracting services owners and facility managers of corporate, healthcare and banking institutions throughout Chicago, the Midwest and the entire nation.
