The award-winning reconstruction of the Trading Room at the Art Institute reflects the attention to detail and pride of workmanship that Reed Illinois Corporation brings to every project. Louis Sullivan's brilliant stencils were applied to the beamed ceiling, which was constructed by Reed's lathers and plasterers.

Templates were used to reproduce the heavy plaster moldings, some two inches in radius; this operation required great skill because tolerances were within a fraction of an inch. New plaster frieze units, column capitals, and art-glass skylights were produced from molds and samples taken from the original building. The room's walls were panelled with Honduras mahogany; red oak was used for the floor. The success of the meticulously executed restoration, which was substantially completed in nine months, was largely due to the skill of Reed's craftsmen and their great respect for the historic architecture of Chicago's museums, universities and civic buildings.

Throughout its history, The Chicago Temple, in the heart of Chicago's Loop, has been admired for its quality woodwork: elegantly detailed ornamentation and intricately designed pews, altar rail and lectern. Reed Illinois Corporation was retained when church officials sought to increase the choir area within the sanctuary. The architect's solution called for relocating the altar. The repositioning required that Reed dismantle the altar rail, front pews and lectern, then "rework" each component in its shop to be reassembled in the church. Analogous to a historic restoration, the "reworking" entailed restoring each element to its original design involving in some instances, hand-carved replications to maintain the pre-existing uninterrupted patterns. The results were eminently successful. Increased choir area was achieved, while the seating capacity was unaffected and the aesthetic qualities for which the church is renowned were enhanced.
